Germany and Italy played out a gripping World Cup classic. Italy were fantastic in the first half and deservedly went ahead through Tara Thomas, who expertly finished off a nice team move at the near post. After half-time a different looking Germany stormed their way back into the contest and won the World Cup. Alycia Eicke was the heroine, scoring all three goals.
